FITTING OF SHED BARS

1) Where necessary reinforce the shed with timber at the points where the central pivot and side brackets are to be positioned. The reinforcing timber should be of sufficient length to give maximum strength and support.

2) Place the shed bar across the shed door ensuring that it runs horizontal across the door. It may then require one person to hold the central pivot whilst the main shed bar is rotated. Then mark the position of the holes on the central pivot.

3) Remove the shed bar and drill the holes using the drill bit provided, drilling through the reinforcing timber.

4) Secure the shed bar using the 8mm bolts, strengthening plate, washer and nut.

5) Move the shed bar to its horizontal position and hold the bracket in an upwards direction so that the holes for the padlock match. Mark the position for drilling and then fix the bracelet as in (4).

6) Place the second bracket on the opposite side of the shed door to the first bracket, fix the second bracket as in (4) but in a downwards direction so that the shed bar can be rotated in and out of both brackets and be locked into place using either bracket by passing the padlock through the holes of the second shed bar and the bracket.

SAFETY NOTE: We would recommend that the ‘Bracket’ for the padlock side of the door is fitted with the open ‘V’ facing downwards. After opening the shed, place padlock into the lock end of the bar. This will prevent the Shed Bar locking accidentally should the door close with somebody inside it.

INSTALLATION OF GARAGE GUARDIAN

Firstly check that you have all of the components:

2 Back Plate and Arm Assemblies. The arm that is pivoted on the Left Hand Side will be the Left Hand Assembly and similarly with the right hand side.
2 Cylinder Locks keyed alike supplied with 3 keys
4 Coachbolts, nuts and washers
1 8mm Twist Drill

Installation

Take the Left Hand Back Plate and Arm assembly and position on the frame on the left hand side of the garage door. We recommend that it be as low down as possible and about 300 mm up from the floor.

Mark the top and bottom holes together with the elongated slot.

With the Back Plate assembly removed, drill the top and bottom holes right through the frame of the door with the twist drill provided.

Carry out the same procedure on the right hand side of the door with the right hand Back Plate and Arm assembly. This should be mounted at the same height as the left hand side purely for aesthetics.

Place one of the locks through one of the Back Plate assemblies. You will notice that the back of the lock protrudes beyond the back of the plate by 11 mms.. Ideally you should drill a hole 45 mms diameter to a depth of about 12 mms into the frame of the door to accept the lock, and to allow for the lock to be inserted either way.

If you don’t have a 30 mm diameter drill or cutter then it is possible to use the drill bit provided to Drill / Router out the required slot.

Then mount the left hand assembly into position with the lock mounted in it, and bolt through the door frame with the bolts, nuts and washers provided. Check that the lock can be removed and refitted. Do the same with the right hand side.

Although we cannot purchase galvanized Bolts with white heads or caps that will cover them, a customer from Huddersfield who fitted one of the first Garage Guardians manufactured (shown in our photograph), has actually painted over the heads of the coachbolts with white paint. This is optional.
