ROLLER SHUTTERS OR SHUTTER DOORS
Traditional Roller Shutters were manufactured from Steel and provided a basic level of Security. As Crime and Burglary have increased in recent years, so the level of attack has increased, making the traditional Roller Shutter only a Low to Medium Security option. Aluminium Security Shutters have evolved with extruded sections generally making them stronger than Steel. The Loss Prevention Council independant testing have set Standards LPS 1175 to measure the strength of Physical Security Products against. It is important to understand that the cheapest Shutters are just Roller Shutters and only provide a basis level of Security, whereas Security Shutters provide Medium to High Security, dependant upon the design.
BUILT-ON SHUTTER SECURITY
These are designed as a retro fit to existing buildings, usually fitted externally, but can also be fitted internally using the Aluminium Shutters rather than the steel metal shutters, as they have as small a box as 137 mm square.
Solid curtain Roller Shutters are the lowest cost option and the most secure, but not a popular or acceptable option for the Council Planning Officers.
On the other hand, See-Through Roller Shutters are normally what Council Planning Officers will insist upon. However they are not as secure as Solid Curtain Roller Shutters, and will be a more expensive option. Provide up to 69% vision.
For High Risk and High Security applications go for the Hi-Security Shutter which has beem independantly tested by the Loss Prevention Councilto LPS 1175 , and is Insurance Approved.
Most Western European countries build the Security Shutter or Security Grille into the structure at the NEW BUILD stage.
In Northern Europe building a Roller Shutter into the structure provides the strongest and neatest solution. We have these Built-In Shutters now available in the UK, up to Loss Prevention Council Level 3.
Garage Door Security is dependant upon the type of Door fitted. A roller garage door or sometimes called a roller shutter garage door, provides a higher level of Garage Door Security than for example, and Up and Over door commonly fitted. One option is the electric roller garage door. Alternatively, manually operated Roller Garage doors are still available in various formats. Fire Shutters from a fire shutter manufacturer, independently tested and accredited by Warrington Fire Research, provide 1 hour and 4 hour certification. Manual fusible link fire shutters are only suitable where security is not required. Electric fire shutters on the other hand can provide automatic operation in case of fire, as well as operated daily to provide security. They also provide fire rated rolling counter shutters.
Rolling security gates, also known as a bar grille or bar shutters are not only suitable for Bars, but also for a Kiosk or Reception Desk. Can be solid roller shutters or see-through roller shutters dependent upon the individual requirements.
