PRODUCT BASICS |
|
• |
Barb Spike 11 is both Insurance Approved and
Police Apprpved |
|
• |
Its neat attractive profile makes it ideal for
use on buildings where appearance is as
important as effectiveness i.e public buildings,
embassies as well as Schools and Local
Authorities. |
|
• |
Barb Spike 11 is manufactured in 1 Length only -
1500 mms (1.5 metres) |
|
• |
Barb Spike 11 is boxed as 15 Lengths of 1500 mms
– making a TOTAL of 22.5 metres per box. |
|
• |
We
only have one height of Barb Spike 11, which is
110 mms in height. |
|
• |
Each length is fully hot dipped galvanized to
prevent rust and designed for external use. |
|
• |
Barb Spike 11 is an IN STOCK product and
available for delivery within a few working days |
|
• |
95% of Barb Spike 11 is supplied with only a
Galvanised finish. However we can powder coat
which helps the product blend in to the
surroundings a) at an additional cost and b)
minimum order 30 metres. |
|
• |
Rotary Barb Spike 11 is also available for
higher security applications. Because Barb Spike
11 is so effective in its standard form, we very
rarely use our Rotary Spike. However it is
available if required. |

A. FLAT &
PITCHED ROOF APPLICATION |
| |
|
|
 |
1) PREVIOUS SOLUTION – DID NOT WORK
Due to previous Flat Roof damage from
vandalism, the School brought in a Local
company who could only off Razor Wire.
Not only did it look like an “Army Camp”
rather than a School, but it did not
work. Coats were simply placed over the
top of the Razor Wire and they could
walk over it. Having spent £000’s it
did not work. |
|
| |
|
|
 |
2) BARBED SPIKE 11 SOLUTION – DID WORK
We were brought in by the Local Crime Reduction
Officer to find a Solution. We removed the Razor
Wire and Brackets. Our Barb Spike 11 was attached to
new “cranked” wall mounted brackets, providing a
much neater result. In the 3 years it has now been
fitted, NOBODY has got onto the roof – providing a
very effective Solution for the School and, no more
roof repairs as a result of Vandalism. |
|
| |
|
|
B. FENCING APPLICATIONS |
| |
|
1) PREVIOUS SOLUTION – DID NOT WORK
A good quality fence had been fitted at this School,
yet climbing over the fence appeared easy. To try to
remedy this a Local company fitted brackets and
Razor Wire all around the School – what a sight!!
What a poor environment for Children to work in.
After spending £000’s the School realised that it
had not worked – thieves were still scaling the
fence, but with a pair of tin snips were able to cut
a section of the Razor Wire out and then get over
the fence. At great expense the solution did not
work. |
|
 |
| |
|
2) BARBED SPIKE 11 SOLUTION – DID
WORK
The School called us in to find a solution being a
Secured by Design company. We removed the Razor Wire
and brackets. We attached Steel Angle between the
posts and attached our Barbed Spike 11 to it – a
much neater result. In over two and a half years
since Barbed Spike 11 has been fitted, nobody has
even tried to climb over it – proving how effective
the product is for the School. |

FITTING INFORMATION |
|
• |
To comply with the requirements of
the Secured by Design License and the Owner’s
Liability Act of 1984, Barb Spike 11 must be fitted
a MINIMUM of 2 metres above the ground. |
|
• |
Schools and Educational
establishments – a MINIMUM height of 2.3 metres, and
ideally 2.4 metres |
|
• |
It is extremely important that Barb
Spike 11 is only attached to a Rigid Structure. If
no rigid structure is available, then something like
50 mm x 50 mm angle may need to be fitted, prior to
securing the Barb Spike 11 to it. |
|
• |
Warning signs MUST be fitted just
below the spike, and at a minimum of 6 metre
intervals, and at least 1 per face. |
|
• |
Barb Spike 11 must be placed on the
leading edge i.e the side that the person will
approach from. If it is not visible it is regarded
as an entrapment. |
|
• |
When handling Barb Spike 11 care
must be taken concerning the sharp edges. It must
never be balanced on an edge but be held in position
for fixing. |
|
• |
Fixing Barb Spike 11 requires the
right screws, bolts, nuts etc, determined by the
substrate that the Barb Spike 11 is being attached
to. It is essential that the Spike is firmly and
securely fixed to its substrate. |

|
This product can be dangerous if not handled
or fitted correctly. Health and Safety is
extremely important. |
| |
|
|
| • |
Barb Spike 11
comes in lengths of 1.5 metres. So when
providing a rigid substrate to attach the Barb
Spike 11 too, bear this length in mind. |
| • |
It is important
that Barb Spike 11 is screwed, bolted or riveted
securely every 300 mms |
| • |
Barb Spike 11 MUST
only be fitted to a rigid structure.
|
| • |
Security fixings
are ideal. If not available, it is acceptable to
either drill out the heads of the fixings OR
fill them with suitable Sealant or Resin. |
| • |
A Flat Roof
usually provides that rigid structure which
enables each length of Barb Spike 11 to be
secured correctly straight onto it. A Silicone
bed is usually placed underneath the length of
Barb Spike 11 and into the drilled holes to make
a good seal with the roof. |
| • |
If fitting the
Barb Spike 11 to the top of Fencing then
something like 50 mm x 50 mm angle needs to be
firmly secured to the fencing posts at each end
to provide that rigid structure that enables the
Barb Spike 11 to be fitted directly on to it.
|
| • |
If fitting Barb
Spike 11 to a Pitched Roof then a series of
Cranked Brackets will be required with angle or
some rigid bar, tube or angle between. 50 mm x
50 mm Angle can be used as per fencing. The Barb
Spike 11 can then be fitted directly on to it. |
